Scientists try to teach robot to laugh at the right time

Can researchers improve natural conversation between people and AI? The art of conversational laughter is one element of human behaviour that has evaded AI systems so far. However, a team from Kyoto University plans to change this. Hannah Devlin explores their quest to identify elements of shared laughter and teach it to a robot.
